Affirmation of Support - Pride Month

As Pride Month comes to a close in the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ District School Board, we want to take this opportunity to affirm our commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.

One of our core priorities as a school district is to ensure safe learning and working environments, free from discrimination. Homophobia, transphobia, and all acts of hate, cause serious, ongoing harm to students, staff, families and community members. The Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ District School Board will not tolerate acts of hate towards any person, and we are dedicated to the values of equity, diversity, inclusivity and the dignity and humanity of every individual.Ìý

In the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ District School Board, we continue to work alongside students, families and community groups to create welcoming, inclusive environments.Ìý

Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ students and staff come together this month to celebrate, uplift and empower the voices of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. One way that we honour and celebrate the diversity and courage of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities is by flying the Pride flag. This month and beyond, we embrace opportunities to educate, promote acceptance, and continue listening and learning from one another to ensure our words, actions and spaces support inclusion for all. Our goal as a district is to ensure students and staff experience identity affirming learning and working environments. This goal is achieved by upholding the human rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ students and staff, and inspiring allyship.

We value the integral role of parents and caregivers in the education of their children, and we continue to work in partnership to foster student wellness and success. Issues around gender identity can be sensitive and, at times, challenging.Ìý As an educational system, we have an obligation to support our students throughout their educational journey.Ìý

Our goal, which we believe is shared by all, is to ensure safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning and working environments for students and staff.Ìý
